I'm back...and cleaning tables

So...it's been a long time since I've posted anything on here. Life has taken some crazy turns since then - thank God He's in charge! Well, I first started this blog by the persuasion of someone very close to me and I decided then to just post poetry I had written. This time, however, following this dear person's example from their blog, I am going to just post things that God is teaching me - it may be poetry, it may be a story, or maybe just a picture. Who knows...

I'd like to restart my blog, though, with a story about something that happened the other day that God used as a lesson. So, I'm back at home working at a fast food restaurant this summer. It's not the most ideal job but I'm attempting to make the most of it. Anyways, the other day I was asked to clean the tables. So I took the spray can of sanitizer and my rag and went to work. This particular day I was in a cheery mood and so I decided I would draw smiley faces on the tables with the sanitizer and then clean them. It was great fun! Then, it hit me, and I decided I would draw a cross on each table and then clean it with using the sanitizer picture. Again, I was just messing around at first but then God opened my eyes.

It was like the sanitizer crosses symbolized Christ and the tables my, or any person's life. I put the cross on the tables and then used it (the cross) to clean them. This is what Christ does in our lives. If we cover ourselves with the cross he cleans and purifys us. I mean, I could have just wiped the tables down with no sanitation spray but then the tables wouldn't have been very clean - they would have just appeared clean. However, when I used the sanitation crosses the tables became clean enough to eat off of. Don't we want this in our lives? Sure, we can just "get our act together" or "clean up our lives" but any changes we make without Christ are only outward - we only appear clean, just as the tables would have. With Christ, though, our lives are purified and cleansed - we're sanitized through Christ. I know I want my life to be like the tables cleansed with the cross of sanitation. I want to be purified.

We just have to decide if we want to take the extra time to put the sanitizer on our lives in order to get really clean or if we just want the quick (apparent) fix? The choice is ours. I now spray crosses on the tables every time I clean them. Maybe one day someone will ask me why I'm doing that - and I'll get to tell them.
